We are almost there!
As we finish, we need to think about what we want to do next. More important than that, who do we want to be. Here is the thing, we can pick our purpose in life, we can choose our destination, we can choose our attitude, but more than that, we can choose what kind of person we want to be based on our values. On that we can decide who we want to be based on our life’s philosophy.
How do we get a philosophy? We steal it.
You read enough and sometimes it merges with you like a conspiracy believer. That is the power of reading. It doesn’t matter if its online, a book, or magazine reading has the power to influence you. You have the power to push back. The problem with society today is older adults have never been taught to question authors and their premise. They just believe what they are told based on their emotions. But that is for another time.
We, we need to decide what we want to read, and whose ideas we want to influence us. The thing is, for thousands of years, philosophies of life have been passed down. Some useful and some detrimental to society. The best place to find them is not on the internet but in books. It would be silly to let AI or any person do all our thinking for us. You have to download the knowledge the old way.
The world is full of philosophies that inform our every decision. From the fruit picker to the truck driver, the warehouse worker to the grocery store cashier, the person who cooked the food to the person who uses the energy to inform policies around who gets to pick the food. The way they come about their ideas of the world and how to act in it decides how they live. To read like a pirate is to not settle for local ideas, generational ideas, ideas that are out of touch with where we are in life. To read like a pirate is to steal others ideas and make them our own in order to live a better life. It is that simple. Ideas from the brave and the bold to the humble and homesteaders. A big part of picking the life you want is about picking the ideas and influences you act on in your life. Don’t be afraid to take what you want.
