Plans Are Future Maps

Good morning, let’s Go!

There are things in our lives, we would like to change. People we would like to meet and places we would like to go. For most of us, we won’t do any of it.
The reason is we don’t have a plan to do anything to make it happen.

The old saying goes, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”
If taken the right way it means shit isn’t going to go the way you plan. It doesn’t mean, don’t plan. It means shit never goes according to plan. But a plan is better than winging it from crisis to crisis. To have a plan is to understand there is a next step coming and to be prepared for it.
Let’s take dieting for example. Once a person goes on a diet to lose weight. Their weight will change. Once it does their diet has to as well. Most people don’t recognize that as their body composition changes, their calorie intake must change with it. It has to change in a way to keep losing weight or to maintain the new weight achievement. I person losing 100 lbs of fat, will need to adjust to be a person who is losing 75 lbs, 50 lbs, 25 lbs, 15 lbs, and 10 lbs. What is required of them changes with each phase.
The same thing happens in a small business. A person must grow from doing it all themselves to delegating and building a team to do the work. The must grow from solo to leader to visionary.

Planning to make changes in your life isn’t goal setting. It is action organizing. It is preparing yourself for the changes you will make. It is planning to run a certain amount of miles a week unit you build up to your first marathon. It is saving a certain amount of money to invest in your first business idea. It is going on the first date hoping to make the right connection. It is looking at life with lofty eyes and chasing it.

Plans are future maps. It is our ability to look ahead and see what is coming. And for those of us wild enough, it is our ability to imagine what we can make of it.
