The Past Matters In Shaping Tomorrow

Good morning, let’s go!

Over the last two weeks I have been working on bathroom repairs. The toilet in my house has had a leak problem. When it would get flushed water would come out. It went unnoticed by us for years, because it was in our kids/guest bathroom. Over the years, this eroded the floor boards. Once uncovered the danger was also revealed. If it had continued someone would have fallen through the floor. Over the last few days I tore out the tile and cut away the affected flooring. And made mistakes, poor assumptions, and many back and forths about how the bathroom should look. The problem- created more problems. It created false timelines and many, many return trips to several department stores. We got a vision for the future and are tweaking it along the way. Murphy’s Law is in full effect and we are handling it as we go.

Some of us have a leaky toilet in our lives, that have fucked us up today. Some of us bad eating habits. Others drinking. Some of us have made poor career choices. Some of us have shit spending habits. Some of us have negative self-talk that has eroded the vision of who we are and who we can be. And the reality is we are the solution. No one is coming to fix you.

The first step is acknowledging that there is a problem. The second is tearing away all the shit that is covering it up. The third is getting a vision of where or who you want to be, when you’re fixed. The after that is doing whatever it takes to get there. Acknowledge your mistakes and move past them. Don’t get bogged down in the present. Use it to move towards the future. Use it to adjust and not make the same mistakes as before. Be patient with yourself and accept it will take time- months or years even, but it will be worth it when you are done with this journey. Make plans and break them- hold tight to your vision. Pursue it with purpose. We all fuck up- you are just normal when you do it too.

Alright, now get your shit together, fix it with a vision of a future you want. Because that future is a new starting point. From there you get a better start- and benefit from all the experiences that come with it.

Alright, I gotta get back to work on the bathroom.
