A creative life is full of projects

What are you trying to accomplish?

What do you think would be a small step to getting it done?

What do you think would be a big step in getting it done?

What would be a daily step in getting it done?

What would stop you from getting it done?

Would you rely on passion to finish?

Would you rely on determination?

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you are like me, you are working on a personal project. It maybe a book, a screenplay, a musical album, an art series, a stand-up set, each endeavor has an end point. Each can be worked, thought through, and then reworked to completion. Each is dependent upon you.

Building a creative career is a different task and is only the culmination of small projects and activities that are done over time. Building a business is different too, it has no end point and must be looked at like a life of its own. It isn’t a project, but a mission in which the end goal should be impossible to complete so that the business can run forever.

I am working on a couple of books and as I step away to write this post, it occurs to me, I am trying to build a career. I am doing poorly at it, but it is what I am trying to do. Every time I sit down to write- I am trying to establish myself in the world as a writer. Every time. So every writing project, every blog post, everything I do needs to become a piece of an ongoing career that is dependant on me and my ability to see every project through. Because once I stop the work stops. If I lose momentum it is only on me to try and get the ball rolling again. If I stop it is only me who will suffer the regret of not pushing through and getting the work done.

A labor of love is still labor. I have to get back to work.

Later Gator,

Nino.
