The Bar is Low to Be What You Want

The bar to being an artist is low.

Really to join the arts you first claim it, then you do it. Want to be a writer, then you write. Want to be a visual artist, then you grab a pencil and draw. Doing the thing technically makes you the thing.

If you eat meat you are a meat-eater. If you abstain from eating meat, dairy, anything that breathes you are a vegan. If you fight, you are a fighter. If you run, you are a runner. Just by virtue of doing of the thing makes you the thing.

That is the easy truth.

The Hard truth is you can do it and suck ass. Your opinion about your ability isn’t the litmus test for the obvious reality of what good is. You might suck at drawing but still love to draw. You might love to run and look like a zombie bit you a mile back. You might dream of being the best chef, but the truth is you wouldn’t rank in the top 1000. That doesn’t matter what matters is your commitment to actually doing the thing. You are not a fake. You are not an imposter. You are not a fraud. If you suck at what you want to do, well, you suck and it doesn’t fucking matter.  If you suck as an artist, you are still an artist. If you suck as a writer you are still a writer. What matters is that you continue to do what you want.

Success is relative. Success all depends on what level you are committed to getting to.

Now if you want to be a millionaire. Like have a million dollars, well, having doesn’t make you a thing. Having can be taken away. Truly being is a part of you and no one can take it from you.
